Commercial description: Divalent or trivalent ion chelating agents mainly in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. Not for food use. It has been used intravenously in the emergency treatment of hypercalcaemia and in the control of digitalis-induced cardiac arrhythmias, and is useful in the therapy of calcified corneal opacities and lime burns of the eye, either topically after removal of the epithelial area or by iontophoresis. In cosmetics it is used as a chelating agent to avoid unwanted interaction of metal ions and also because it enhances the preservative action. Dosage for use: 0,05 - 2%.
